In the Reylo Museum’s Inaugural Exhibition, a blog on Tumblr. Arbutus Blossoms wrote why they were inspired by this artwork, saying “I chose this painting because it is very similar to Rey and Kylo Ren’s relationship, especially from "The Last Jedi". Their bond is represented similarly like this painting as if it’s a secret that only they know. The shadowy figure on the bottom lower corner represents danger of someone finding out. Similarly to Luke did in the hut scene.”

Based off the cover art of Johanna Lindsey’s "Tender is the Storm" romance novel. The cover is the classic painted-style romance book cover. Evokes passion and intimacy between the two lead characters. Leaning into the romantic nature of Reylo. A great example of the tongue-in-cheek attitude Reylos have with the couple. The cover references the scene in The Last Jedi where a Force Bond finds Rey face to face with a shirtless Kylo Ren. The movie has many references to Rey experiencing sexual intimacy for the first time with Kylo Ren. This fanart was personally liked on Twitter by Rian Johnson, the director of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi".

Reflection
The paintings the fans chose to take inspiration from, are ones with themes of romantic bond. These connections also show a deep intellectual exploration of the Star Wars story. The fans are looking to centuries old paintings with some of their subject matter referencing even further back in time. The subject matter is a recurring theme that has now found its way into a huge franchise in the pop culture sphere; the theme being “love is timeless”.
